Hooks and Reverse Hooks If you leave gaps in your essay like gaps in stairs, you’ll leave your reader hanging. There are a few basics to be covered before we get to the specifics. When beginning to write your essay, it will be awkward to just start off right out of nowhere. It would be similar to trying to choreograph a dance without know which song you’re dancing to. For example, just now it was nearly impossible for me to start writing my essay completely on my outline. To start it off, I used a hook. First off, your hooks and reverse hooks are not outlined. They are short phrases discreetly introducing the subject you’ll be writing about. Saying directly, I’m going to talk about the parietal eye next, is very elementary and basic. Furthermore, there is still much to learn about hooks and reverse hooks. You know what the basic idea of hooks and reverse hooks are by now, but your idea of them is still thin. First of all, there is one hook at the beginning of each of your paragraphs. As you already know, they introduce what you will discuss. However, you’re first hook will be a transparent link between your introduction and your paragraphs. Reverse hooks have a different purpose. They introduce about what is written in the following paragraph. And your last reverse hook will be the hook for everything you’ve said to reality.
