Citations
They are basically direct quotes. In your outline and essay should be the direct quote, than the last name of the author it was quoted from. NO QUOTATIONS MARKS. The plain quote and the last name of the author it was quoted from in parentheses. As easy as it seems, some students put in quotes anyway even when they are told specifically NOT to put in quotation marks.
Parenthetical citations are listed along with your footnotes at the bottom of each page and on the endnotes page as well. The format of the citations should be: Direct quote(Last name of author quote was taken from).

In-text Citation:

The writing (......and , finally, the answer to number 28 was "the ends justify the means") is the citation. (Nessen) is the Parenthetical citation. A parenthetical citation is the author's last name in parenthesis.
